Obituary Maxine Johnson, 86, of Westridge Road Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Landsun Health Service Center. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, October 11, 2019, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brad Coates officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of making arrangements. Maxine was born on May 23, 1933, in Bogata, Texas to Charlie and Lorena McCrury. She went to school in Bogata, Texas. In October 1953, Maxine met the love of her life, William Cortez Johnson, in Hobbs, New Mexico. On May 16, 1954 they were married in Hobbs and shortly following their wedding, they moved to Carlsbad. On June 20, 1955, their first daughter, Brenda, was born. Their second daughter, Rebecca, was born August 13, 1959. Maxine worked as a manager at Food Jet for forty years. She was known for her dedication and hard work ethic. She also enjoyed reading, working on word search puzzles and bowling. She and Cortez bowled for many years and with many different leagues, often traveling for competitions. Family was important to Maxine, and she loved spending time with them and friends. Whether it be for a special occasion or just because, Maxine enjoyed cooking for everyone. She was especially known for her homemade pies. Maxine was a kind and caring person, and she will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Maxine was preceded in death by both her parents; husband, Cortez Johnson; three bothers: Charlie "Red", Dalton, and Henry McCrury; and three sisters: Ailene Brumley, Celestine Rupard, Wanza O'Neal, Oleta Briggs and Patsy Jumper. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Becky Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Brenda Dugas and husband, Bob of Carlsbad, NM; grandson, William Dugas and wife, Amy of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughter, Amanda Dugas of Carlsbad, NM; great-granddaughter (aka her baby) and numerous nieces and nephews.
