Max M. Vasquez, 78, of Grandi Road, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.

A vigil is scheduled for Thursday, December 14, 2017, 7:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 15, 2017, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Martin Cordero officiating.

Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.

Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Max M. Vasquez was born January 22, 1939 in Ysleta, Texas to Benjamin and Elena (Mendoza) Vasquez and moved to Malaga with his parents in 1950.  He served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in France.  Max married Mary Lou Sandate December 23, 1962 in Carlsbad.  He farmed and ranched his entire life.  Max bought his first farm in Otis in 1971 and steadily added acreage over the years.  He served on the supervisory board of the CSWD, CID and Otis Water Coop for many years.  Max firmly believed that raising his children in the farming tradition would help them attain “strong work values” which would be with them the rest of their lives.  He was a long time member of San Jose Catholic Church.  Max loved spending time with his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou Vasquez of Carlsbad, NM; children: Lucy Moreno and husband, Frank, Richard S. Vasquez,  Max S. Vasquez, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Henry S. Vasquez and wife, Felicia, Mary Lou S. Smith and husband, Bart, Daniel S. Vasquez, Lawrence S. Vasquez, Mark A. S. Vasquez, Pamela McPherson and husband, Mike and John S. Vasquez; 23 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers: Lupe M. Vasquez, Ben M. Vasquez, Epi M. Vasquez, Tony M. Vasquez, Frank M. Vasquez, Mike M. Vasquez, Juan M. Vasquez, Carmen M. Vasquez and Pete M. Vasquez; sister, Elena Vasquez and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Richard S. Vasquez, Max S. Vasquez, Jr., Henry S. Vasquez, Daniel S. Vasquez, Lawrence S. Vasquez, Mark S. Vasquez, John S. Vasquez and Henry Isaiah Vasquez.
