Maureen Pete, 85, of Bellingham, Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Goodlife Assisted Living. Cremation has taken place and there will be no public services. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Maureen was born March 1, 1938 in Lanarkshire, Scotland to Francis and Mary (McNally) O’Pray. She graduated high school in Scotland in 1956 and traveled to the United States on her own when she was 21 years old. Maureen married Ronald W. Pete in 1978 in Nevada. They spent much of their time together simply exploring the country. Maureen’s hands were always busy quilting, cooking, and working in her garden. She was very proud of her beautiful yard. Maureen had a flair for baking and was famous for her delicious scones and biscotti. She often hosted tea parties for her friends at her home. Maureen spent the last year in Carlsbad and embraced every moment with her daughter, Fran. She was a kind soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ronald W. Pete.
Survivors are her son, James Henry McCarthy, IV and wife, Elizabeth of Germany; daughters: Terri McCarthy of Washington, Fran McCarthy of Carlsbad, NM, and Bernadette McCarthy of New Hampshire; special stepson, Alexander Pete of Utah; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter; special friends, Mary Ann Vietz of Bellingham and Jan Steele of Bellingham and exceptional neighbors, Steve and Kristin of Bellingham.
