Obituary Mattie Lee Hinton, 94 , passed away February 24, 2020 at her daughters home in Carlsbad. Cremation will take place and a memorial service is scheduled for 10 AM, Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Hamilton officiating. Interment will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Prairie Haven Cemetery, Hobbs, NM. Mattie Lee was born June 12, 1925 in Ashdown, Arkansas. She married John F. Hinton September 1, 1942 in Jefferson, Texas. They moved to Hobbs in 1952 where they bought the home where Mattie Lee still resided, a total of 67 years in the same house. She lived by the three Cs: cussin, coffee and crochetin. Anyone that knew Mattie Lee, knew the definition of feisty and ornery. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Frank Hinton; son-in-law, John Butch Mason; sisters: Helen Nelson and Ella Mae McMahon. Survivors are her son, John Hughlon Hinton and wife, Carole R. of St. George, UT; daughter, Dorothy J. Mason of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: John Heath Hinton and husband, Robert, Salli Johnson and husband, Ted, Heather Taylor and husband, Steve, Sean Mason and wife, Belen; great-grandchildren: Jaxson John Hinton Taylor and London Lillian Lee Taylor and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
