Matthew Allyn "Matt" Sexton, 51, of Riverview, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at his home.
Matt was born March 29, 1960 in Fullerton, California to Frederick Allyn and Reba Jean (Sawyer) Sexton. He was a long time resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Matt moved to Carlsbad in 1997 where he met his wife, Lauren Purdy. He started painting with water colors when he was very young, and was a very talented artist. Matt continued on to have a collection of beautiful paintings and won numerous awards at art shows throughout his life. His hobbies included painting model airplanes, tanks and ships from the World War II era. Matt was a very king person that went out of his way to help others when he could. He was also an avid animal lover with a special knack for cats and birds. Matt was working as a manager for Allsup's when he met his wife. He went on to become a maintenance manager on various jobs for Taylor Maid Janitorial and had his own lawn care business, Budget Lawn Care. He was preceded in death by his mother, Reba Sexton.
He is survived by his wife, Lauren Sexton of Carlsbad, NM; father, Bill Sexton of California; sister, Ellen Hodges; brother, Steve Sexton of Colorado; sister, Pat Mabrey of Carlsbad; sister-in-law, Lisa Prindle; brother-in-law, Miles Cook of Dallas, TX. Matt is also survived by his step-children: Lee Hunt, Brian Purdy, Robin Prudy, Shawna Purdy and Michael Cook all of Carlsbad; nephews: Grant Mabrey and Coal Mabrey of Carlsbad; nieces: Beth Mabrey of Midland, TX, Kathleen Hodges of Colorado; six grandchildren and two grand-nieces.
Services are pending at this time, but will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, date and time to be scheduled later.
