Mary Jean Urquidez

Mary Jean Urquidez, 77, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at her home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2014, 3:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Terry McKean officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mary Jean Urquidez was born March 30, 1937 in Loving, New Mexico to Mickey Trujillo. She was also raised by her grandfather, Jesus Trujillo. She was a lifelong resident of Loving and the Carlsbad area. She graduated from Isleta Bible School in 1956 in El Paso. October 26, 1956 she married Reyes "Ray" Urquidez in Loving, New Mexico. She retired from Sears in 1992. Mary was a devoted Christian and taught Sunday school. She was also a choir director at the Assembly of God church. She sang and played the piano. Mary was raised in church and loved to share the word of the Lord. She enjoyed sewing, arranging flowers and decorating. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mickey Contreras; brother, Herman Hernandez and sister, Nora Contreras. Survivors are her husband of 58 years, Ray Urquidez; daughter, Sharon Hill of Loving, NM; grandson, Mark McKinney and fiance, Evelyn Sugura of Carlsbad, NM; brother-in-law, Raul Urquidez of Carlsbad, NM; sisters-in-law: Armenia Castillo of Carlsbad, NM, Rosa Escobar of California and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Roy Hernandez, Jaime Balencia, Joe Hernandez, Israel Munoz, Alan Brown and T. J. Liddell. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
