Mary M. Walterscheid

Mary M. Walterscheid, 65, of E. Hamilton Place, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 at her home. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2016 at St. Edward Catholic Church. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2016 at St. Edward Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, November 14, 2016, 10:00 AM at St. Edward Catholic Church with Fr. Pasala Hruday Kumar and Fr. Martin Cordero concelebrating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mary M. Walterscheid was the only child born to Richard and Marie Hess on August 16, 1951 in Aurora, Illinois. She married Mark C. Walterscheid April 11th in Carlsbad, NM and together they raised their four children. Mary worked in the nursing field for her professional career until 1992 when she joined her husband in his business, The Garden Mart, opening the floral shop where she has continued to operate and cherish her customers through the years. She was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards including the Carlsbad Community Foundation, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Club, New Mexico State Florist Association, Vice Chair of the Mayor's Committee for Long Range Planning-Quality of Life, Carlsbad Assistance League, past secretary of Class Act, current president of St. Edward Catholic School Board and past president of Carlsbad Rotary Club, New Mexico-West Texas Teleflora and former regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Carlsbad. She was preceded in death by her parents and father and mother-in-law, Alfred "A.J." and Annie Mary Walterscheid. Survivors are her husband, Mark Walterscheid of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Mandy Funchess and husband, Howard of Albuquerque, NM; sons: Christopher Tyk and wife, Senika of Chandler, Arizona, Jared Walterscheid and wife, Angelica of Carlsbad, NM, Zachary Walterscheid and wife, Ashley of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Addyson and Carson Funchess, Carter, Savannah, Preston and Hailey Tyk, Gabriella, Giuliana and Gentzen Walterscheid and McKenzie Walterscheid. Pallbearers will be Christopher Tyk, Jared Walterscheid, Zachary Walterscheid, Howard Funchess, Carson Funchess and Tommy Folsom. Because of Mary's philanthropic passion, the family has set up a memorial fund in her name at the Carlsbad Community Foundation, 114 S. Canyon Street, Carlsbad, NM 88220.
