Mary Lou Vasquez was one of eleven children born to Herculano and Lucia Sandate, on February 3, 1943, in Alpine, TX. Her parents moved to Carlsbad, NM when she was only nine months old. On February 22, 1962, she married her true love, Max M. Vasquez. A year later, they started their family of ten children. She was a loving friend, aunt, sister, daughter, and wife but most of all, a loving mother. She instilled the values of her faith into each one of her children and lived by example for them in hopes that they continue to do the same for her grandchildren.
Mary Lou was an active member of San Jose Catholic Church and loved our Lord with her heart of gold. In her earlier years, she taught Catechism of the Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was faithful in praying for The Marian Movement of Priests and the Divine Mercy Devotion.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Max M. Vasquez; parents, Herculano and Lucia Sandate; siblings, Gabino, Manuel, Jesus, and Gregorio Sandate, Amelia Chavez, Lupe Botello, and Mary Helen Dorado; and grandson, Aaron Vasquez.
She is survived by her children, Lucy Gomez-Moreno and husband Frank, Richard Vasquez, Max Jr. Vasquez and wife Brenda, Mary Smith and husband Bart, Daniel Vasquez, Lawrence Vasquez, Mark Vasquez, Pamela McPherson and husband Mike, John Vasquez, and Henry Vasquez and wife Felicia; twenty-five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, twin brother Joe Sandate, Olivia Rhinehart, and Frank Sandate.
We will always remember our Mom for her beautiful smile, her determination to live life to the fullest, and her love for God and family. She will be missed by many and will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Thank you, Mom, for all of the beautiful memories.
