Mary Lou Lee, 81, of Old Cavern Highway, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 28, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Cavern Baptist Church with Pastor Dick Means and Pastor Gary Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mary Lou Lee was born July 7, 1930 to Frank and Irene (Booker) Gentry in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1949. Mary Lou married Tom D. Lee, Jr. on May 28, 1949 here in Carlsbad. They bought the family farm and Mary Lou enjoyed being a farm wife during her life. She loved spending time with her family. Mary Lou and Tommy enjoyed traveling and fishing. She was a devoted christian and a member of the Cavern Baptist Church. Mary Lou taught bible class for many years and volunteered many hours with various church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom D. "Tommy" Lee, Jr.; sisters: Alice Shelton, Nadine Barker; brothers: Frank, John, Alvin and Lynn Gentry. Survivors are her brother, Paul Gentry of Canyon Lake, Texas; two sisters: Virgie Hale of Albuquerque, NM, Cora McCauley of Carlsbad, NM; 22 nieces and nephews; 49 great- nieces and nephews and 20 great-great-nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Denny Gentry, Gerald Gentry, Melvin Gentry, John Gentry, Ronnie Barker, Adam McDonald, Zachary McDonald, Gary Shelton and Randy Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are all her nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Children's Home, P. O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
