Mary Beth Basham

Mary Beth Basham, 95, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at Landsun Health Services Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Graveside Service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 28, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with J. D. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mary Beth Basham was born December 13, 1916 in Lubbock, Texas to Oscar Franklin and Lillie Celeste (Buckley) Boyd. Mary Beth grew up in Texas and graduated high school. She attended Texas Tech University for three years. She met Otis Basham while attending college and they were married in Roswell, NM on August 19, 1939. They moved to Carlsbad in 1940 until 1955 when they returned to Texas. In 1969 they moved back to Carlsbad where they raised their family. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club in the 1940's, PEO, The Landsun Auxiliary, AARP and First United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting and collecting old movies. She was honored with The Sam Thornburg Landsun Foundation Award in 2006 and was honored as one of Carlsbad's "Unsung Hero's" in October 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otis T. Basham in February 2001; three brothers; one sister and great-granddaughter, Kelsey Basham. Survivors are her son, Biff Basham and wife, Charlene of Cloudcroft, NM; daughter, Robin Bostick and husband, Leroy of Carlsbad, NM; five grandchildren, Terry Basham and wife, Kristy, Sherry Basham, Sandy Basham, Shane Bostick and wife, Kris, Julie Montgomery and husband, Randall; three great-grandchildren Kyle Valeu, Dylan Bostick and Harrison Bostick.
