Marjorie “Margie” Porter Blackburn, 80, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away April 24, 2023 at White Sands Nursing Home, Hobbs, NM. Graveside services are scheduled for 9:30 AM, Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Carlsbad Cemetery with Sam Plumlee officiating.

Margie was born July 24, 1942 in Carlsbad, NM to C.B. and Margaret (Cooper) Porter.  She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from NMSU.  Margie received a master’s degree from Eastern NM State University.  She taught school in New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana throughout her career.  Margie was a well-respected educator and valued friend.  She was preceded in death by her parents, C.B. and Margaret Porter and husband Clarence Blackburn.

Marjorie is survived by her son Brian Blackburn and wife, LeeAnn; granddaughter Abby Blackburn and Montana Whitley-Pierce; three great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Porter and wife, Angela; extended family, Grandma Dale Hoyle, Jeanne Fincher and close lifelong friend, Ponice Neel.
