Marian B. Bales, 92, of West Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Lakeview Christian Home. There will be no visitation, cremation will take place. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013, 11:00 AM, at Sunset Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Marian B. Bales was born July 2, 1920 to John and Mary (Grubbs) Barnes in Huntsville, Arkansas and lived there until the family moved to Belen, NM, where she graduated from high school. After graduation she attended Abilene Christian College from 1939 to 1941. Marion married David Pursch in 1941 in San Antonio, TX. David was killed while serving in WWII and Marian and their daughter, Lucy returned to Belen. Marion began her 25 year career with the civil service in 1945 at Kirkland Air Force Base. She married Eldon C. Hawkins in 1947 and they were blessed with four children, living in Riverside, CA during most of their working careers. Eldon passed away and Marian married John Bales in 1970. They moved to Florida in 1976 where they spent their retirement years. After John's death in 1996, Marian began to make plans to move to Carlsbad. She enjoyed playing Bridge, crocheting and knitting, but most of all Marian had a love for working with World Bible School which teaches people about the gospel all over the world. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter, Stephanie Hawkins and son, Anthony Hawkins. Survivors are sons: Eldon Hawkins, Jr. and wife, Donna of Roswell, NM, John Hawkins of Lapwai, ID; daughter, Lucy Pursch Jones and husband, Troy Mark of Abilene, TX; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Halfrod of Carlsbad, NM and a niece and nephew.
