Maria "Mary" Rubio

Maria "Mary" Rubio, 79, of Sunnyview, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2011, from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil is scheduled for Monday, September 5, 2011, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 De Baca St., Carlsbad. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, 2011, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Phil Ley OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Maria "Mary" Rubio was born October 16, 1931, in Carlsbad, NM to Jose and Magdalena (Holguin) Navarrette. She married Facundo F. "Chino" Rubio on April 19, 1952 in Carlsbad. They lived in a number of cities while Chino was in the military. After his service in the military, Mary and Chino lived in Roswell and Topeka, KS returning to Carlsbad in 1988. Mary's hobbies included embroidery, sewing, and cooking. She always enjoyed church activities and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Josefa Armendariz. Survivors are her husband, Chino Rubio of Carlsbad, NM; sisters Consuelo Hernandez of Silver Springs, NV and Elvira Ruiz of Vasalia, CA; brothers Robert Navarrette of Carlsbad, NM Roy Navarrette of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Joe Navarrette, Robert Navarrette, Reuben Navarrette, Ronnie Navarrette, Chon Armendariz and Orlando Chaves. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Peters and Martin Villa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard, P.O.
