Obituary Maria Gutierrez, 84, of Sycamore Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away November 7, 2020 at her home. Visitation will be 2 PM 6 PM, Thursday, November 12, 2020 and 9 AM noon, Friday, November 13, 2020, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Private services will be held at Santa Catarina Cemetery with Deacon Manuel Chavez officiating. Maria was born July 10, 1936 in Carlsbad, NM, to Miguel and Adela (Rodriguez) Pineda and attended school in Carlsbad. She cared for children with tuberculosis at Ft. Stanton, which is where she met Anselmo. Maria married Anselmo P. Gutierrez October 17, 1956 in Carrizozo, NM. She returned to Carlsbad in 1977. Maria enjoyed yard work, crafts, yard sales and was excellent at carpentry and painting. She was active at San Jose Catholic Church. Maria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anselmo P. Gutierrez, Sr.; son, Andy Gutierrez; grandson, Randy Gutierrez; brother, Manuel Pineda; sisters: Mickey Perrez, Mary Lou Arrendondo and Estefana Carrasco. Survivors are her son, Anselmo P. Gutierrez, Jr.; grandchildren: Candy Vigil and husband, Jacob, Arianna Gutierrez, Kaylynn Garcia, Dennis Contreras and wife, Melissa, Anna Contreras and Manuel Contreras, Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Mike Pineda and wife, Delma, Rosa Sarabia, Elena Garcia and husband, Leon, Johnny Pineda and wife, Sheila, Elsie Contreras; brother-in-law, Joe Perrez and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pallbearers will be Arianna Gutierrez, Dennis Contreras, Manuel Contreras, Jr., David Pineda, Ricky Sedillo and Anselmo Gutierrez, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Leon Garcia and Joe Perrez.
