Maria C. "Elena" Lara, 81, of W. Presidio Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Iglesia de Cristo, 414 South Guadalupe Street. A prayer service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 7:00 PM at Iglesia de Cristo. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 10:00 AM, at Iglesia de Cristo with Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Maria C. "Elena" Lara was born on April 9, 1933, in Presidio, Texas to Gavino and Maria (Hernandez) Carnero. She moved to Carlsbad as a young girl. Maria married Nino Lara April 20, 1952. She was a long time member of the Iglesia de Cristo. Maria loved to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball. She cherished the time spent with all of her family, enjoyed cooking for them and was an absolutely wonderful wife and mother. She will be greatly missed. Maria was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, David Castillo, Jr. and brother, Cuco Carnero. Survivors are her husband, Nino Lara of Carlsbad, NM; children: Manuel Lara and wife, Connie of Lubbock, Texas, Cici Calderon and husband, Manuel, Sally Aguilar and husband, Julian, Mario Lara and wife, Rose, Irma Rodriguez and husband, David, Abel Lara and wife, Prissy, all of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Jennifer Campos, Michael Hernandez, Julian Jerome Aguilar, Melanie Aguilar, Gwen Mendoza, Mario Lara, Jr., Danielle Lara, Melissa Rodriguez, Megan Rodriguez, David Rodriguez, III, Misti Rodriguez, Tiffany Ortiz, Justin Lara, Stacy Ybarra, Lindsey Lepetit, Austin Lanier; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers: Frank Huereque, Lupe Huereque; sisters: Dominga Corona, Juanita Nava and numerous nieces and nephews Pallbearers will be Julian Jerome Aguilar, David Rodriguez, III, Justin Lara, Mario Lara, Jr., Michael Hernandez, Melissa Rodriguez, Jennifer Campos, Danielle Lara.
