Marguerite Pritchard, 94, of Plum Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 12, 2011 at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 17, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Epworth United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Marguerite Pritchard was born November 19, 1916 in Plainview, Arkansas to John Bascomb and Molly Dorinda (Little) Choate. She moved to Carlsbad as a young girl with her parents in 1928. Marguerite graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1934. She married Elward Lee Pritchard on December 30, 1935 in Clovis, NM. In the early years, Marguerite, worked for her father at the Otis Store. Lee and Marguerite later bought the Hermosa Grocery Store which they operated until the early 1940's. She was a charter member at Epworth United Methodist Church and was the first secretary at the church. Marguerite began work at the Eddy County Treasurer's Office in 1957 and later worked for Carlsbad Supply as their bookkeeper until 1977. She was also a member of Eastern Star, Chapter 54, Landsun Auxiliary and a charter member of Caveman Sam's. Marguerite and Lee enjoyed traveling over the United States in their fifth wheel trailer after retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee Pritchard, grandson, Scott Pritchard, and her two sisters Alice Jean Hanson and Gladys Perkins. Survivors are two sons: Jerry Pritchard and wife, JoAnn McKenzie of Austin, TX, Jim R. Pritchard of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Doris Lee Pritchard Muotka of Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be David Shoup, Steve Massey, Norm Siepel, Mark Heinrich, Jerry Click and Leonard Caswell. The family wants to thank the staff at Lakeview Christian Nursing for the love and care they showed Marguerite and the family during her stay over the past several months.
