Marguerite (Chick) Acree came into this world on June 21, 1921, and went to live with the Lord in her 90th year on April 24, 2012. She was born in Haskell, OK, to Eck and Osia (Johnson) Acree. When she was 19, she met S.N. Crosby and they were married June 3, 1940, in Seminole , OK. S.N. went off to war, leaving Chick with their two young children, Noland (Bud) and Sandy. After S.N. returned to the States, Doris Lynn was born and the family started following the oil field. They lived in Colorado City, Odessa, Hobbs, and wherever the work was. S.N. passed away in Hobbs in 1958. Chick married Holland Cruse in 1961, and she and Holland traveled the country and several foreign countries playing golf and fishing. They loved to travel, and they enjoyed their grandchildren. Chick painted items for her children and grandchildren until she died. At 90, she bought herself a laptop and learned to play computer games on it. She enjoyed that for about 8 months and then graduated to an I-pad when she saw her grandchildren using one. She looked forward to going to the casino even after she was in a wheel chair, and never missed her favorite TV show, Dancing with the Stars. She read her Bible every night before she went to bed, and was an inspiration to all her family. She will be remembered for her strength, competiveness, and love of her family.
Chick is survived by her 3 children, Noland Crosby and his wife Freda of Holly Lake Ranch, TX, Sandy Bogan and her husband Bob of Carlsbad, and Doris Adams of Odessa, TX; 6 grandchildren, Stacy Bogan-Green, Susan Crosby, Jana Russell, Trey Adams, Amanda Martin-Johnson, and Darby Adams; 8 great grandchildren, Tiffany Crawford, Tehya Adams, Bailee Russell, Macey Russell, Lee McCord, Jamie McCord, John McEntyre, and Ethan McEntyre; a brother, Elick Acree and a sister, Alwanda Hester. Interment will be held April 30 in Odessa, TX. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The children would like to thank the medical personnel at Carlsbad Medical Center who took care of our mother in her last days. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
