Margaret Tregoning

Margaret Tregoning, 84, of Doepp Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away May 2, 2010 at Lakeview Christian Home. A private family service will be held at Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Margaret Tregoning was born December 24, 1925 in Kobe, Japan. Her father was a Methodist Missionary and Business Manager of a University. Most of her first 14 years were spent in Japan. In September of 1940 the U.S. State Department advised women and children to leave. This was her seventh crossing of the Pacific. Margaret lived in Amarillo, Texas until the end of the school year when her father returned to the United States - the family then moved to Westfield, New Jersey where she attended high school. She received her BA degree in Sociology from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. It was here that she met Dale who had returned from the war and was in the V12 program. They were married in 1947 and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where Dale went to work for International Harvester Company. During his 30 years with I. H. Dale traveled a great deal and they moved a number of times. They lived in Monroe, Louisiana, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Amarillo, Texas. In 1964 they moved to Carlsbad. They helped with the Meal on Wheels Program and Margaret was active in the tennis program of he Assistance League. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Maida Mickle and sister, Maida Walker. Survivors are her husband, Dale Tregoning of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Lynn Hunt and husband, Barry of Carlsbad, NM; three grandchildren: Becky Hunt of Placitas, NM, Katie Fraker and husband, Dustin of Farmington, NM, Leah Walls and husband, Chris of Carlsbad, NM and great-grandson, Kaleb Fraker.
