Manuela C. Martinez, 97, of E. Compress, Artesia, New Mexico, passed away March 9, 2011 at Heartland Nursing Home. Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Artesia, NM. A Vigil is scheduled for Sunday, March 13, 2011, 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, March 14, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church - Artesia, NM with Father Paul Murtagh, S.S.C.C. officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Oaks Cemetery, Artesia, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Manuela C. Martinez was born December 24, 1913 in Candelaria, Texas to Eziquiel and Augustina (Renteria) Cabezuela. She married Pedro P. Martinez, Sr. in January of 1932. Manuela was known for continually praying for her family and always cherished the time spent with them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pedro P. Martinez, Sr.; daughters: Manuela Gonzalez, Elvira Sanchez; son, Pedro Martinez, Jr. and two great-great-grandchildren. Survivors include four children: Lilia Martinez of Artesia, NM, Eleutario "Chindo" Martinez and wife, Norma of Artesia, NM, Sammy Martinez, Sr. and wife, Angie of Artesia, Grace Armendariz and husband, Tony of Artesia, NM; 26 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jose Maria Cabezuela and wife, Tomasita of Artesia, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pallbearers will be Fabian Gonzalez, Ramiro Martinez, Pedro Martinez, Jr., Arturo Vargas, George Sanchez and Javier Martinez. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
