Magdalena Calderon

Magdalena Calderon, 86, of Mora Street, Carlsbad, NM, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ December 27, 2023. She went peacefully surrounded by her family at her home. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.

Magdalena was born in Presidio, Texas to Jorge Mendoza and Luz Hinojos. She also had two brothers, Manuel Mendoza and Jose Mendoza. She then went off and married Manuel Jr. Calderon. He peacefully passed away in 1989.

Magdalena was a homemaker all her life, raising 14 children: 7 girls and 7 boys. She loved her family, enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing bingo. She also loved to do crossword puzzles and puzzles. Mostly, she loved her 4-legged puppies, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was the family’s rock. During holidays and get-togethers at her home, she welcomed everyone—family and friends—she loved all.

Magdalena is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Manuel Mendoza and Jose Mendoza, a son, Manuel 3rd Calderon, a daughter, Elpida Calderon, granddaughter Sabrina Calderon, grandson Mathew Jr. Vasquez, and great-grandson Shiloh Berdoza.

Surviving family includes daughters: Lorina Delgado and husband Leo Delgado, Carmen Rubio and husband Edwardo Rubio, Elia Hernadez and companion Adan Licon, Socorro Calderon, Helen Lopez and husband Lupe Lopez, and Christina Luna and her husband Cesar Luna. Other surviving family includes sons: Jessie Calderon, Lupe Calderon and companion Brandy Blanch, Daniel Calderon, Ricky Calderon and wife Martha Calderon, David Calderon and wife Jackie Calderon, and Robert Calderon, as well as numerous grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great-grandkids. Magdelena will be missed dearly by all.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Delgado, Carlos Avina, Little Ricky Calderon, Hunter Calderon, Martin Jr. Calderon, and Orlando Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of the grandkids. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
