Obituary
Madeline McGonagill , 92, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018, at the Good Life Senior Living Center. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at Central Christian Church, 305 N Oak Street, in Carlsbad. Dave Oakley will officiate.
Madeline was born October 15, 1925, in Eustace, Texas, to James Benjamin Cook and Hattie (Darby) Cook. She was the youngest child of ten children. She was a member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ.
She married Jack Burton Roberson in 1949. At age 27, she became a widow with two small children to support. She was dedicated to raising her children and making the best life possible for her family. She worked as a bookkeeper for McDonalds Department Store and also Texas Street Lumber Company.
In 1972, after her children were grown, she married George E. McGonagill. They were married for almost 43 years, when he passed away in 2015.
She had a great love for sewing and was an excellent seamstress. She created countless sewing projects throughout the years for her family and herself. She loved to make baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack B. Roberson, 1953, and husband, George E. McGonagill, 2015, granddaughter, Dana Roberson, stepson, Sterling McGonagill, step-grandson, Chris Bowman, and eight of her nine siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Coffman (Larry), Amarillo, TX, son, Curtis Andrew Roberson (Sherry), Loving, NM, four stepchildren, Judy Bowman (Mike), of Springtown, TX, and Charla Grice (Johnny), Shane McGonagill, Brenda Jolly (Barry) all of Carlsbad, NM, four grandchildren, David Coffman (Leslie), Kristal Bradford (Austin), John Roberson (Emily), Sarah Porter (Gary), ten step-grandchildren, a combined twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and her sister, Marie Autry, of Roswell, NM, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Good Life Senior Living Center for their wonderful care and TLC for all of their support and assistance.
