Lyle Grant, 96, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 and 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 3:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Boyd of First United Methodist Church officiating. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:30 AM, Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Inez Cemetery, Roosevelt County, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Lyle Grant was born on February 13, 1916, in Rogers, NM to Grover C. and Arba N. (Carder) Grant. He graduated from Rogers High School. Lyle farmed and ranched with his family as a young boy and continued farming his parents' homestead near Rogers for many years. He married Thelma Miller on April 13, 1941 in Clovis, NM. They moved to Carlsbad in 1956 where Lyle went to work for US Potash, retiring from Duval in 1984. In retirement, Lyle farmed the family homestead. He and Thelma spent many years in retirement enjoying life on the farm. Lyle was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge #1558 and Epworth United Methodist Church. He was a collector of cowboy poetry, music and history of the cowboys. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma Grant in 2002; grandson, Kenneth Lyle Gaines; granddaughter, Kathy Jo Gaines Franke; and brothers, Paul Grant and Garvin Grant. Survivors are his daughters: Linda Haywood and husband, Bill of Ruidoso, NM, Kathy Gibson and husband, Danny of Carlsbad, NM, Zana Grant of Albuquerque, NM and Robbie Miskimin of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren: Paul Gibson of Seattle, Washington, Michele Gibson Hafner and husband, John of Peoria, Illinois and Amy Phillips and husband, Lee of Las Cruces, NM; great-grandchildren: Sydni of Seattle, Washington, Aaron of Arlington, TX, Nick, Katie, Jack and Ben all of Peoria, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Paul Gibson, Bill Haywood, Danny Gibson, Lee Phillips, Michele Gibson Hafner and Amy Phillips. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
