Lupe Leyva

Lupe Leyva, 78, of Sage Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 29, 2013 at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 De Baca. A Vigil is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 29, 2013 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, December 30, 2013 at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Lupe Leyva was born December 13, 1935 in San Carlos, Coahuila, Mexico, to Isidoro and Matiana (Casarez) Mendoza. In 1953 she married Rodolfo C. Leyva. In 1963 they moved to Del Rio, Texas then to Van Horn in 1964 and to Carlsbad in 1975. Lupe volunteered as a grandma at Puckett Elementary school for many years. She was an active member of San Jose Catholic Church where she sang with Coro Agua Viva. Lupe was also active at San Jose Senior Center and enjoyed baby sitting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rodolfo C. Leyva and sister, Lucila Medrano. Survivors are her sons: Rodolfo M. Leyva and wife, Dora, Roberto Leyva and wife, Sarah, Ricardo Leyva, Reynaldo Leyva and Laura, all of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Ana Maria Jimenez and husband, Javier of Carlsbad, NM, Angelica Rodriquez and husband, Cornelio of Colton, California; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings: Anasticia Mendoza, Armando Mendoza, Maruca Flores, all of Del Rio, Texas and Francisco Mendoza of Pasco, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Rene Gonzalez, II, Joey Navarez, Diego Bernal, Mike Payanes, Harvey Jimenez, Jr. and Orlando Jimenez. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
