Lucy Ortega, 79, of Haston Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her home. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - Vigil, Monday, August 26, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2013, 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, 2013, 2:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Lucy Ortega was born March 24, 1934 in Santa Fe, NM to Juan and Delfina S. (Sanchez) Montoya. She married George Charles Ortega on June 5, 1954 in Santa Fe, NM. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Lucy enjoyed working outside. She loved to cook for her family and friends, especially all the grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Erlinda Segura; sons: Esquiel Ortega, Ernest Ortega; sisters: Irene Montoya, Emilia Duran; brothers: Joe Montoya, Pete Montoya and Horace Montoya. Survivors are her husband, George Ortega of Carlsbad, NM; two daughters: JoAnn Garcia and husband, Benjamin of Pomona, California, Sandra Ybaben and husband, Fred of Carlsbad, NM; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and brother, Ramon Montoya of Santa Fe, NM.
