Lucia Lopez Carrasco

Lucia Lopez Carrasco, age 68, was called to heaven on April 22, 2025, surrounded by her family. Lucia was born on May 13, 1956, to Cruz and Marcela Lopez in Carlsbad New Mexico. She married her loving husband Noel Carrasco of 43 years on November 14, 1981. They had 3 wonderful kids together and were rarely ever seen away from each other’s side.

Visitation will 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A vigil will follow at 6:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.

Lucia enjoyed doing arts and crafts, baking her famous “4th of July” cake, and discovering new recipes, that led her to become one of the most popular vendors known as “Mama Lucy’s Creations” at the Farmers Market and Craft Shows in the area. Leading to many people coming week after week to pick up Mama Lucy’s famous jams, jellies, and salsa.

She also held many titles throughout her life, in different avenues she explored. She was a loan officer, skip tracer, and manager, but the titles that she was most proud of were those given to her by family and friends. To her loved ones she was babe, Mama Lucy, Mama, Tia Lucia, Tia Cia, and so many other loving titles she enjoyed answering to. Lucia filled any room she was in with warmth and love that could draw out affection from all of those around her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Cruz and Marcela Lopez; brother, Leon Lopez; father-in-law, Enrique Carrasco; mother-in-law, Margarita Carrasco.

She is survived by her loving husband, Noel Carrasco; son, Christopher Carrasco and wife Amanda Carrasco of Carlsbad; daughters: Stephanie Carrasco, Ana-Lisa Carrasco, of Carlsbad; daughter-in-love, Naomi Ybarra and husband Fabian Ybarra of Carlsbad; brothers: Louie Lopez, Leo Lopez and wife Diana, Larry Lopez and wife Eva, Leonardo Lopez all of Carlsbad; numerous nieces and nephews. God Children: Mercedez Saiz, Larry Navarrette, Mauricio Saiz, and Ashlyn Saiz, Patrick Lopez, Tori Gonzales, Naomi Ybarra, Kasey Yanez, Adelina Lopez. Mama Lucy also cherished her bonus children, Ayden Ornelas, Anella Ybarra, and Leila Navarrete.
