Louise Brookshier, 86, of Westridge Rd., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away December 11, 2010 at Landsun Homes. Per her wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 12 noon at 805 Hueco Street, Apt. 21 in Carlsbad. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Louise Brookshier was born April 12, 1924 in Marlin, Texas to Clifford and Gertrude Younce. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1942. She wanted to go to college to be a chemist but went to work for Western Union in Rock Springs, Wyoming where she met and married Johnnie Brookshier on August 3, 1949. They moved to Linwood, California and owned a store in Ontario, California. While living there they added a daughter, Melinda to their family. As a family they moved to Alaska with Johnnie's job until 1978 when they moved to Carlsbad. She was employed at the JC Penney and fabric store for many years, retiring in 1992. Her hobbies included gardening and sewing. She was an active member of Central Christian Church for many years, spanning from 1997 - 2010. She loved the scripture Philippians 4:13. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnnie V. Brookshier; brother, Perry Younce and a sister, Laura Reszler. Survivors include her daughter, Melinda Sims of Carlsbad, NM; grandson, Joel Sims of Carlsbad, NM and dear friend, Pat Hoyle of Tye, Texas.
