Loretta Chamberlain

Loretta Chamberlain of Carlsbad passed away on December 1, 2012, at the age of eighty-four. With her were her husband George and her daughter and son, Rebecca and Keith. Loretta was born in Fort Lupton, Colorado, on October 7, 1928, the first daughter of Alice and Auzy Bowles. Four sisters and a brother eventually completed her close-knit family and she derived lifelong happiness from them. She grew up and attended school in Fort Lupton, graduating in 1946. She was introduced to George Chamberlain by her close friend and George's sister Helen who attended high school with her. The good-looking young couple fell in love and Loretta and George were married on May 31, 1946, to begin a marriage of sixty-six years. She was a devoted wife and loving life's companion to George. They made a happy home for themselves and their two children. They lived in Fort Lupton until 1953 when they bought a home in Denver. Though she worked in retail until her retirement, Loretta's true calling was as a wife, mother and homemaker. She was also a joyous grandmother and great-grandmother. Loretta kept an immaculate house and enjoyed her flower beds. She was an active person who enjoyed dancing and golf, needlework, reading, crossword puzzles and card games. The couple began a new chapter in their lives when they moved to Carlsbad in 1989. They made many wonderful friends, golfing and dancing several times a week and getting together with friends for music, food and lively conversation. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled but her family and friends will always cherish many wonderful memories of her life. Private services for Loretta's and George's friends will be held in Carlsbad and a memorial service for family will be held in Fort Lupton, Colorado. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
