Lola Mae Thompson, 92, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away March 5, 2023, at Lakeview Christian Home.  Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Sunset Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.  Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lola was born October 28, 1930 in Edmond, Oklahoma to L.A. “Hollie” and Ruth (Jones) Holland.  She graduated from Edmond High School in 1948.  Lola earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Central State College in 1951.  She married G.C. Thompson December 20, 1952, in Edmond, Oklahoma. They moved to Carlsbad in 1955.  Lola taught school for Carlsbad Municipal Schools for 24 years.  She was a faithful charter member of Sunset Church of Christ.  Lola enjoyed reading, traveling, bird watching and cooking for her children and grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roy Holland; son-in-law, Robert Ortiz, Jr., and a great-grandson.

Survivors are her husband, G.C. Thompson; daughter, Darla Ortiz of Carlsbad, NM; son, Steven Thompson and wife, Susie of Hendersonville, Tennessee; daughter, Janet Brumfield and husband, Tim of Lubbock, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Steven Thompson, Orlando Ortiz, Esteban Ortiz, Tim Brumfield, Jesse Brumfield, Jonathan McIlwee, and Brian King. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Thompson, Drew Thompson, Jeremy Bridges, Pryde Brown, John Coleman, and J.C. Cunningham.
