On March 16, 2021, the world lost an angel. Lois lived her life every day for God without trying to push her beliefs on anyone else. She tried to make everyone else’s life a little better by talking to or listening to anyone she came into contact with.

Lois was born on October 7, 1923, in Tonkawa, OK, to Phinnis and Virginia Simmons Gamble. She graduated from Odessa High in 1941 and married Fred L. Miller. Together they had a son and two daughters. Being the daughter of and then the wife of oilfield workers, Lois lived in many different places: OK, Odessa, Houston, MO, McCamey, Midkiff, and Brownfield before settling in Jal for 40 years. In 1998 she moved to Carlsbad to be nearer her family.

Lois was widowed when she was 57. She continued to be very strong and independent. Lois was a Methodist by faith from her birth to her death. She became a religious education teacher for 20 years. She truly LOVED every aspect of that position especially the part that took her travelling and mixing with so many different people. She became a licensed cosmetologist and practiced professionally for 20 years. Later she owned and operated the Radio Shack/Tradewind Electronic in Jal, NM, for 15 years.

Lois was very fond of travelling. She has been to many parts of the world. She has gone to Europe twice and to Asia twice. In the U.S., she has been from the East Coast to the West Coast, to the North and to the South. We never knew her to turn down a trip with her family or her church. She loved spending time at the Methodist Church Camp at Sacramento so much that she wants her ashes to be sprinkled there.

As she aged, Lois devoted herself to volunteering at the Landsun Gift Shop and to their rummage sales. She was recognized several times for her volunteering and caring in the community.

Lois has always been the backbone of her family. She has supported each of us through every marriage, birth, surgery, divorce, world trip, and death. She is leaving a 97-year void in our hearts.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her sister Betty Jo Shaffer and her brother Bobby Louis Gamble and wife Jolene, her son Fred L. (Roy) Miller and wife Doris, two daughters Darlyne Galle and husband J.R., and Adel Miller. Seven grandkids are extremely lucky to have grown up with a grandmother like “Omi”: Michael Dickel and wife Kim, Dr. Sybille Miller and husband Brian Love, Ursula Miller and husband David Adelman, Scott Morris and wife Jeanine, Cory Morris, Lane Galle, and Lisa Gadbury and husband Shawn. She often bragged about her 11 great-grandkids and her 3 great-great grandkids. She also leaves numerous loved nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Lakeview Hospice for their tremendous love and caring. A celebration of Lois’ life will take place at the First United Methodist Church, the service will be lived streamed.
