Lloyd Henry Garner

Lloyd Henry Garner of Lakewood, CA, passed away peacefully at age 89 on Monday, March 20, 2017, in Downey, CA in the presence of His Son Carl, and Daughter-in-Law Aurelle. Lloyd was born on December 30, 1927 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Carl and Leona Garner. Lloyd survived his Brothers, Paul and Howard, who he loved very much. Lloyd grew up in Oklahoma City during the challenges of the Dust Bowl, before moving with his family to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he graduated from high school. Lloyd was a strong young man with a passion for body building, health, and fitness. Lloyd was an exceptionally hard worker and had a work ethic second to none, which he developed very early in his life, in part from working on the railroads. Lloyd was also a true Patriot, and loved his country. Lloyd served in the National Guard during WWII, before being Honorably Discharged in 1946. In keeping with his commitment to Patriotism, Lloyd was a proud, lifelong member of The American Legion, and stayed very active in that organization throughout his lifetime. Lloyd was extremely proud to be an American, and proud of all those who serve our country in order to preserve our Freedom. It was in Carlsbad that Lloyd met the love of his life, and the light of his world, Linda Pauline Anderson. Linda was a stunning beauty, and took his breath away- even until his passing he would refer to images of her with pride, and share them with those he met saying " this was my wife, wasn't she beautiful?". In Love, and with Lloyd sweeping Linda off her feet, they moved to Lakewood, CA, where they purchased a lovely home in which they would raise their entire family. Lloyd and Linda had three beautiful children, two Daughters and one Son; Eldest Daughter Threasa, Daughter Darla, and Son Carl. Lloyd was an excellent provider, with a degree in Electronics, and enjoyed his long days working with his brother Paul, and finding himself a valuable commodity working with electronics and building aircraft. Lloyd had a long, distinguished, and very successful career as an engineer and rocket scientist with Boeing. One of Lloyd's proudest professional accomplishments was his work on satellite and GPS systems (that we now widely use today), helping to invent the technology which allows satellites to travel through space without burning up. He received recognition for this not only from the company, but personally from Congress as well. In addition to electronics and engineering, Lloyd was a certified Gun Smith, and an avid collector of Arms. Lloyd enjoyed Karate and was accomplished in Shotokan, receiving his second degree black belt. Shotokan was a passion of Lloyd's that he practiced his entire adult life, and was proud to display his framed degrees. Lloyd also loved Cars, and acquired a large collection of classic vehicles, and was particularly proud of his burgundy Jaguar. Eventually Lloyd and Linda became Grandparents, and ultimately had 6 Grandchildren; Two Granddaughters, and four Grandsons. Lloyd loved all of his Grandchildren dearly and always wanted to teach them how to fix things. Whether it was a car repair, a flat tire, or a radio, Lloyd could repair it and shared those experiences elbow deep with his Kids and Grandkids. Tragedy struck Lloyds life when his beloved Linda Pauline was taken from him in 1992. Linda's passing broke Lloyds heart, and he painfully lived with that loss the rest of his life. Years later, Lloyd experienced another tragedy that haunted him, the passing of his eldest Daughter Threasa in 2003. Lloyd loved to travel, especially to tropical destinations, and had an affinity for visiting both Hawaii and Mexico. In his sunset years, spending time with loved ones was what Lloyd loved most. He enjoyed the company of friends, listening to music, reading, and watching his favorite movies. It was Lloyd's desire and last request to be laid to rest with his beloved Linda in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Lloyd's ashes will be interred with Linda Pauline, as was his wish, at Carlsbad Cemetery at 11am on Saturday, April 8th. We celebrate for Lloyd that He and Linda may be rejoined, and are reminded of the quote by Richard Bach, "Real Love Stories Never Have Endings". Lloyd will be remembered as a strong Father and Grandfather. He leaves behind Daughter Darla, of Carlsbad,NM, Son Carl and Daughter-in-Law Aurelle, of Lakewood CA,; Granddaughters Denise Slinger, and Nicole Slinger, daughters of Threasa ; Grandsons Dean Nesbit, Dan Nesbit, and TJ Nesbit, Sons of Darla; And Grandson Eathan Garner, Son of Carl, as well as several Great Grandchildren.
