Linda May (Edington) Allen was born July 29, 1939, in Lincoln, NM to Fred Jasper and Nellie Agnes (Pfingsten) Edington. Linda belonged to The Mayhill Extension Association for 25 years. She was always the top salesperson for the annual quilt raffle. If you were pumping gas next to Linda, you probably left with at least one ticket. Even policemen were not exempt. She lived near Mayhill, NM in as she said "my mountains" for over 40 years. Her weakened heart condition was making the high altitude living questionable. She told Billy Barr, one of her "adopted" sons, "If they say I can't come here anymore, I'm going to come home and just not leave." She was a charter member of The Mountain of the Lord of Faith Fellowship Church near Mayhill and attended that church for many years. Each year she read her bible from cover to cover. Linda had a kind heart and helped everyone she could, many times giving away or sharing things she had bought for herself. Her daughter Helen shared that "mom was kind hearted and loved by friends and family. More than one person said that when mom walked into a room, she lit it up." She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bonnie A. Allen and brothers: Albert H. Edington and Fred Creighton Edington.
She is survived by her son, Lonnie Dale Waldrip and wife, Tammy of Mullin, Texas; two daughters: Kitty Nell McGowen and Dan Helm of Alamogordo, NM, Helen Louise Waldrip and Charles Day of Carlsbad, NM; two grandchildren: Justin Waldrip of Texas, Bonnie Jean May Maness and husband, Creighton of Carlsbad, NM; three sisters: JoAnn Edington of Blanding, Utah, Sally Rivera of Silver City, NM, Billie Edington of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived and was loved by many of her husband's, Bonnie Arthur Allen's, children and grandchildren who she treated the same as her own.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mayhill Extension Association, care of Patty Posey, P.O. Box 7, Mayhill, NM 88339.
