Linda "Linnie" Sue Davis Currier

Linnie Davis, 60, of Vineyard Court, Carlsbad, went on to her eternal life on July 16, 2012. She was born to Bill and Genie Davis on August 9, 1951, at St. Francis Hospital in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1969. After beginning her education at the University of New Mexico, she graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Agricultural Biology. She married Mike Currier in 1986. They have one daughter, Missi, who lives in Austin, Texas with her husband Kris Barton. Linnie applied for and studied to become a State Farm Insurance agent like her father. She served in that profession for 26 years, having retired in December of 2006. She was an avid animal lover beyond description, and considered all of her pets family. From the time she was a youngster, Linnie was an avid horseperson who competed, showed, groomed and rode for pleasure as often as possible. For years, she also trained and showed dogs, and found great joy in teaching others how to train their puppies. With her great grandparents settling in Carlsbad in 1892, after immigrating from Switzerland and Germany, her roots here run deep. Her great pride in the Carlsbad community was shown by her many activities, which included being an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, Chamber of Commerce, Department of Development, Rotary Club of Carlsbad, Assistance League of Carlsbad, Altrusa International, Inc., Healthy Woman Organization, Carlsbad Horsemen's Association, the Riverside Country Club Women's Golf Association, and the Carlsbad Community Foundation. While serving as President of the Foundation, she took the lead in strengthening Lifeline, a program which has helped countless citizens of Carlsbad when in need of emergency help. Along with her mother, father, husband, daughter and son-in-law, Linnie is survived by her cousins, Mary Blohm and husband, Robert, Roy Cooper and wife, Stephanie, Jackie Reid and husband, Johnny and Paulette Burkham and husband, Sammy, along with numerous aunts and uncles, two dogs, her horse, a cat, an aquarium full of fish, a backyard full of turtles and flocks of birds who loved to visit Linnie's feeders. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 207 N Halagueno, in Carlsbad at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 21. Immediately following will be a reception at the Riverside Country Club, 1700 W Orchard Ln. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution to the "Linnie Davis For The Love of Horses Scholarship" that has been created in Linnie's memory at the Carlsbad Community Foundation, 114 N Canyon, Carlsbad, New Mexico 88220 or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
