Leva England

Leva England, 89, of 206 S. Mesa Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away May 5, 2011, Carlsbad Medical Center after a brief illness. She had been residing at Landsun Home for 2 years. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:30 PM, Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Phil Lairson officiating. Private interment will take place at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Leva England was born December 24, 1921, in Slaton, TX to Amos T. and Cora Lee (Hopkins) Herrod. She graduated from Plainview High School. Leva began work at the hospital where she trained and worked as a Lab and X-ray Tech for two years. She married William Hugh England on June 29, 1941, in Plainview, TX. Leva then worked at the Lubbock Air Field as a hospital tech before she and Hugh moved to California during the war for a brief stay. In 1944, they moved to Hobbs, where they lived until they moved to Carlsbad in 1946 and opened the branch location of Ponca Wholesale. Leva helped Hugh as bookkeeper in the business until the time came to stay home with their boys. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, dominos, and interior decorating. Leva was a member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Hugh England; brother, Boyce Herrod; sister, Nola Gay Newton; and grandson, Bryce England. Survivors include sons: William H. England and wife, Cathy of Las Cruces, NM; Richard T. England and wife, Karen of Masonville, CO; David K. England of Santa Fe, NM; Roger B. England and wife, Leslie of Greenville, TX; seven grandchildren; and twin sister, Lee Landry of Portales, NM. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
