Obituary
LeRoy Montao, 71, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Carlsbad passed away on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 1002 DeBaca St. with burial of cremains to follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.
Fr. Martin Cordero will officiate. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He met and married the love of his life, Flora, in September 1963. They lived in Carlsbad for 43 years until his illness when they moved to Arizona.
He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society for several years. After his move to Arizona he became a member of Holy Spirit and All Saints Catholic Churches.
He worked for the City of Carlsbad for 33 years until he became disabled. During his employment he served as Union Secretary for numerous years. He coached softball for Gibbs Electric and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
LeRoy loved playing the guitar and singing. At an early age he taught himself to play and went on to be lead guitarist and sing in a variety of his own personal bands and later on in the church choir. Music was his passion!
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Flora of Mesa, AZ, daughter Debbie Montao of Tempe, AZ, son LeRoy Montao Jr. (Geneva) of Albuquerque NM, Linda Duran (Gerald) of Tempe, AZ and daughter in heart, Melissa Martinez. He is also survived by his brothers; Cecil (Lalo), Jimmy and Benny Montao, Felix, Eddie and Max Jimenez, sisters Josie Sisneros, Jenny Dimas and Ruby Hendron and biological mother, Dora Medina.
He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren; Destiny, Margaret, Bernadette, Candice, Yvette, Charles (Cody), Nathan, Ethan and Ian. He also had 6 great-grandchildren; Antonio, Isaac, Illyana, Izayas, Amaiyah and Ivayah, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Margaret Montao and brother Johnnie Roberts.
LeRoy was known for his musical talent and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
