Leopoldo "Leo" Sanchez, Jr.

Leopoldo “Leo” Sanchez, Jr., 70, of N. Cypress Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at Carlsbad Medical Center.  Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Associate Pastor Patrick Long officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Leo was born February 17, 1952 in Carlsbad, NM to Leopoldo and Valentina (Sanchez) Sanchez.  He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1972.  Leo married Ana Maria Natera February 7, 1978.  He worked for the City of Carlsbad over 26 years.  Leo enjoyed woodworking and was known to be a “Jack of all trades”.  He loved listening to the oldies and always watched the car restoration shows.  Being the only boy in the family, Leo constantly teased and played jokes with his sisters.  He enjoyed visiting with his best friend, Chito Duran. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sally Sanchez and brother, Lionel Sanchez.

Survivors are his wife, Ana Maria Sanchez; daughter, Joanna Sanchez; son, Caesar Sanchez and wife, Kim; grandchildren: Gabriella Sanchez and Isabella Sanchez; sisters: Hilda Nevarez and husband, Jesus Manuel, Sylvia Hernandez, Elva Leaton and husband, Ellis, Delia Sanchez, Lisa Sanchez and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Huerta, Jesus Nevarez, Jr., Jesse James Lester, Chris Aranda, Naythan Aranda and Izaiah Navarro.
