Leona Elizabeth Kevil, passed away at the age of 97 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Bacon officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Leona Elizabeth Bright Kevil was the only child born to Elgar S. and Mary B. (Johnson) Bright. She was born on September 28, 1913 in Carlsbad, Tom Green County, Texas. She was reared on ranches in West Texas and attended school in one room school houses until high school where she attended the Immaculate Conception Academy, a boarding school in San Angelo, TX. Leona had been a resident of Carlsbad since 1939. She worked at Carlsbad Army Airfield, the old Memorial Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and the Carlsbad Medical Center, retiring at the age of 74. Leona and her husband, Allison M. "Buster" Kevil were married in 1930 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1980, just prior to Buster Kevil's death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons: Richard Kevil and Tommy Kevil; son-in-law, Sid Wyrick and grandson-in-law, Donnie Stevenson.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary K. Wyrick of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: Jesse Kevil, Paul Kevil and wife, Donna of Carlsbad, NM; daughter-in-law, Kathy Kevil of Carlsbad, NM; seven grandchildren: Sherry Kevil Stevenson of Little Rock, Arkansas, Susan Busby of Carlsbad, NM, Fred Wyrick and wife, Judy of Carlsbad, NM, Nancy Hamouch and husband, Nassif of Carrollton, TX David Wyrick and wife, Mary Ann of Natches, Mississippi, Frances Evans of Tulsa, OK, Julie Pettes of Carlsbad, NM; 17 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David M. Wyrick, Dusty Wyatt, Terry Busby, Travis Stevenson, Robin Earwood and Glen Robinson.
