Leon Garcia, 79, of Normandy Street, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, September 20, 2021 at 10:00AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Jesus Fierro officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Leon Garcia was born April 11, 1942, in Terlingua, Texas to Bernabe J. and Antonia (Gaytan) Garcia. Leon moved to Carlsbad with his family in 1943. He married Elena Pineda November 17, 1962. Leon worked in the potash mines for 37 years, retiring from Mosaic Potash. He had a passion for helping in mission work and taught Bible classes for all his adult life. Leon was the first Spanish speaking deacon at Fox and Lake Church of Christ which is where he was a longtime member. He loved reading, studying and leading singing. Leon Garcia was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Eleuteria Garcia; brother: Fermin Garcia and great-grandson: Diego Leon Garcia. Survivors are wife: Elena P. Garcia; son: Hector P. Garcia; daughters: Adela A. Chavez and husband, Michael; Annette Nichols and husband, Jamie; grandchildren: Kristle Parraz, Nika Parraz, Brandon Nichols, Kate Nichols and Layla Jameson and husband, Cameron; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers: Ralph Garcia, Serapio Garcia and Bridgio Garcia and wife, Gloria; sisters: Julia Garcia and Natie Sanez and husband, Raul and numerous nieces and nephews.
