Leon D. Marsell, 79, of Ural Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at his home.
Services will be held at a later date in Stockton, Kansas.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Leon D. Marsell was born August 11, 1933 in Webster, Kansas to Frank and Bessie (Randall) Marsell. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1951. Leon served his country in the US army during the Korean Conflict. He began his 34 year career with the Bureau of Reclamation in 1953. Leon built several dams before moving to Carlsbad and overseeing the construction of Brantley Dam. He also built a number of irrigation canals throughout the Carlsbad area, retiring in 1987. Leon enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deloris Cook.
Survivors are nephew, Gary Cook and wife, Carol of Andover, Kansas; niece, Sherry Stewart of Derby, Kansas; nephew, Steve Cook and wife, Pat of Stockton, Kansas; great-nieces and nephews: Ryan Cook and Kayla Cook.
