Leo Blackburn, 74, of South Thomason Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his home.
There will be no public visitation, cremation has taken place.
A Graveside Service is scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2014, 2:00 PM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Pastor Ken Engledow officiating.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Leo Blackburn was born November 14, 1939 in Brinkley, Arkansas to Russell and Viola (Smith) Blackburn. He moved to Carlsbad when he was 7 years old. Leo served 10 years in the Army. He received a Bachelor's Degree from New Mexico State University in Industrial Engineering. On June 26, 1960 he married Marjorie Porter at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Carlsbad. For the last 14 years of his working career, he worked for Beeman and Beeman Accounting as a bookkeeper. Leo was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a mason. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Leo was a family man. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Merlin Blackburn.
Survivors are his wife of almost 55 years, Margie Blackburn of Carlsbad, NM; son, Clarence Brian Blackburn and wife, LeeAnn of Carlsbad, NM; two grandchildren: Abby Blackburn, Montana Blackburn and great-grandson, Christian Brian Blackburn.
