Lawrence "Larry" Walker

Lawrence “Larry” Walker passed away gracefully in his sleep, on February 1, 2022, at the age of 86, in Roswell, NM.

Larry, also known by his nickname “Corkey” was born in Wichita, Kansas and moved with his family to Texas from there, where he met and married his first wife Joyce. They had their first son “Mickey”, then they moved to San Diego, California in the late 50’s and had a second son, Larry, and daughter, Sherry.

He worked as a Land Surveyor for many years then in 1974 he and a partner started Walker Insurance Agency, his son, Larry joined him in 1977.

In the early 80’s he was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Patty. Pat had 2 beautiful young children, David & Rochelle whom he helped raise. They moved to Carlsbad, NM in the late 80’s and for several years he traveled throughout the entire state of NM successfully selling yellow page ads.

Larry and his families enjoyed many wonderful life experiences. They were always busy going places and doing things. He was very good and very competitive at any sport or anything he took up, even with only having one good hand. He loved sports and outdoor activities like skin diving, water skiing, bowling, softball, ATVs, camping, and of course his favorite pastime, Golf. He also coached Mickey and Larry throughout their Little League and Pony League years and went on to coach for another 15 years beyond that. He was an excellent coach and teacher. He touched many lives over the years. He was a character, and was someone that once met, was never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by Joyce and Patty. His living family members include Mickey, Larry and Marcie Walker, Sherry and Todd Burnworth, David Miller and Rochelle Castillo. He has 7 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.  

Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 5^th, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home located at 1001 N Canal St; Carlsbad, NM 88220. There is also a Celebration of Life planned in Escondido, CA. Time and Date are TBD.
