Laverne Stafford, 82, of East Orchard Lane, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at her home. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2013, 10:00 AM, at First Baptist Church with Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Laverne Stafford was born October 3, 1931 in Evant, Texas to Vernon and Leona (Marshall) Wilhite. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Laverne and her husband started and co-owned Greer Construction in 1963. In 1975, Fisher passed away and Laverne continued to manage the company until her retirement in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Edward Fisher Greer and W. O. Stafford and sister, Pat Milsap. Survivors are her daughter, Linda Nichols and husband, Joe of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: James Greer and wife, Patti of Carlsbad, NM, Steve Greer and wife, Kim of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Jason Nichols and wife, Tammy, Jered Nichols and wife, Tracie, Lisa Greer, James Fisher Greer, Cody Greer, Morgan Greer, Karsen Greer; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Johnson of Alba, TX and brother, Russell Wilhite of Gatesville, TX. Pallbearers will be Jason Nichols, Lisa Greer, James Fisher Greer, Jered Nichols, Cody Greer and Morgan Greer. Memorial contributions may be made to National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P. O. Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or a charity of the donor's choice.
