LaVern Zapkus

LaVern Zapkus, 70, of West Orchard Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away August 8, 2010 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 13, 2010, 10:00 AM, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Bro. Gerald Harden officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. LaVern Zapkus was born August 17, 1939 in Paris, Texas to Claude Lee and Lizzie Bell (Baker) Bradley. She married Vincent Zapkus on September 2, 1966 here in Carlsbad. Vincent and LaVern lived in numerous cities throughout their lives and moved back to Carlsbad in 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ray Bradley and sister, Eva Lee Britain. She is survived by her husband, Vince Zapkus of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Mary Bell and husband, Wally of Carlsbad, NM and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Randy Britain, Stacy Britain, Frank Westfall, Wiley Bell, Terry Mullins and Bo Britain. Memorial contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation, P.O.
