LaVeda Elizabeth Bennett, 78, of South 11th Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away August 2, 2010 at her home. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, 1:00 PM, August 7, 2010, at Sunset Church of Christ with Chaplain Mike Veilleux and Chaplain Terry McKean officiating. Interment was held in the family plot at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. LaVeda Elizabeth Bennett was born July 4, 1932 in Muleshoe, Texas to James William and MaryAnn Elizabeth (Bright) Harriman. She grew up in Rogers, New Mexico and moved to Texico, where she graduated from high school in 1951. LeVeda married Lake Bennett on July 12, 1952 in Dora, NM. They moved to Carlsbad in 1953. LaVeda worked at Gibson's as a sales clerk. She also raised honeybees. She loved to crochet and read. LaVeda was an avid owl collector. She as a member of Sunset Church of Christ where she was a Bible School teacher in the 1980's. In the past year she enjoyed doing Facebook games and chatting with family and friends. LaVeda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. A posting on Facebook shared that she was "a spectacular lady and a blessing to everyone". She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, three sisters and a great-grandson, Gideon Elliott Stuart. Survivors are her husband, Lake Bennett of Carlsbad; two daughters: Sarah Elizabeth Becker and husband, David of Carlsbad, NM, Paula Denise Stuart and husband, Terry of Las Cruces, NM; grandson, Garrin Bennett Stuart and wife, Rachele of Chaparral, NM; great-grandson, Jareth Alexander Stuart of Chaparral, NM; sister, Rita Mock or Porterville, CA.
