Laura Rhodes, 82, of Vineyard Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away December 27,2022 at Del Sol Medical Center, El Paso, Texas. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Friday, December 30, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 31,2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Nick King and Ryan and Serina Nelson officiating. . Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton- Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Laura was born December 9, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa to Sylvan and Alta (Miller) Yoder. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1959 and earned an LPN degree at LaJunta Mennonite School of Nursing in Colorado. Laura married Dick Rhodes February 13, 1965 in Iowa City, Iowa. They moved to Carlsbad in 1969.

Laura loved the Lord, her family, her church family and a multitude of friends. She was an active member of Carlsbad Mennonite Church and The Gideons International Auxiliary. Her Christian faith was her priority and she displayed it through her sweet spirit and her pure heart. She worked for Lakeview Christian Home for almost 25 years as the Activity Director. She also held several offices for the Association of New Mexico Activity Professionals. Everyone who knew Laura was always met with a smile. She loved to host and entertain guests in their home. Some of her hobbies included crafts, reading, quilting, and sewing. She loved scrapbooking and attended multiple events where she made many friends. She loved playing games with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. The love she had for her family was shown through her care and concern for each family member and her thoughtfulness in making quilts for many of them through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lillian Miller.

Survivors are her husband, Richard "Dick" Rhodes of Carlsbad, New Mexico; son, Glen Rhodes and wife, Rhonda of Arthur, Illinois; daughters: Sherri Smith and husband, Travis of Krum, Texas, Colleen Keller and husband, Clay of Carlsbad, New Mexico; grandchildren: Rebecca Hopkins and husband, Steven, Derek Rhodes and wife, Morgan, Trey and Conner Smith, Cayla and Cassie Keller, Carrie Keller and fiance, Hector Lara and Colleen Cane and husband, Nick; great-grandchildren: Serenity, Bennett and Wyatt; sister, Roline Migliore and husband, Frank; brothers: Dennis Yoder and wife, AnnaMary, Norman Yoder and wife, Linda and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Church Mission Organizations, or a charity of your choice.
