Larry "Butch" Gilmer

Larry "Butch" Gilmer, 63, of Sandyridge Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 27, 2010 at University New Mexico Hospital. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 10:00 AM, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Cyprian Uline, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Larry "Butch" Gilmer was born December 28, 1946 in Enid, Oklahoma to Lester and Margaret (Banta) Gilmer. He served his country in the US Army. Larry married Nancy Thomas on August 22, 1970 in Garden Grove, CA. They moved to New Mexico in 1974 and on to Carlsbad in 1986. Larry was a business owner in Springer, NM, where he owned an auto mechanic shop. He later worked for the Department of Corrections here in Carlsbad and most recently worked for the National Parks at the Carlsbad Caverns, retiring in 2007. Larry enjoyed fishing, mechanic work, woodworking and home projects. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kitty Newton. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Gilmer of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Tracy Johnson and husband, Jeff of Carlsbad, NM; grandson, Guy Johnson of Carlsbad, NM and granddaughter, Claire Johnson of Carlsbad, NM. Pallbearers will be Greg Thomas, Dan Thomas, Jeff Johnson, Tom Newton, Michael Crapo and David Newton.
