LaNora Young passed away in peace Monday, February 6, 2017 at her daughter's home. There will be no visitation as per her wishes she will be cremated. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2017, 3:00 PM, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Jimmy Morris officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. LaNora was born to Lewis and Arizona Greer in Aspermont, Texas on February 18, 1935. As a young child, she moved to Carlsbad with her family. She spent her childhood attending school, growing up, and making many life-long friends. LaNora was a homemaker but also worked part-time at the now gone, once famous Carlsbad What-A-Burger. LaNora enjoyed many different hobbies throughout her life. She wrote poetry, sketched, tended to her house plants, sewed, read voraciously, worked crossword puzzles, loved listening to music, played board and card games. She also loved animals and had many special pets through the years. She made the best ever enchiladas and enjoyed making and sharing her "hot sauce" with friends and family. LaNora was something special to many because she had a way of making you feel special to her. She would listen to all with an open mind and heart. Then, she would offer words of wisdom whether from experience or the Bible. LaNora's Bible knowledge stemmed from her many years of bible study as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She found much comfort in the Bible's message and its promise of a resurrection to everlasting life, in a paradise on earth. LaNora is preceded in death by her parents, brother: Kenneth Greer, son: David Young, grandson: Derek McCoy, and her husband: JC Young. Survivors are her daughters: Diane Nesbit and husband, Jerry, and Shannon McCoy all of Carlsbad, NM., grandchildren: Chris Young and wife, Jennifer of Fernley, NV., Dustyn Young and Jeanette of Carlsbad, NM., Jami McCoy and Charlie of Justin, TX., Victor Gomez of Santa Fe, NM., Stephanie Bernal-Young and husband, Josh of Albuquerque, NM., in-laws: Jim and Pat Alexander of Clarkston, AZ., and Tommy and Jenny Young of Albuquerque, NM., eight great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
As a mom, Nana, Grandma, Grandbandy, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and friend she will be so missed. The best tribute we can make to our loved one is the life we live after her death. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
