LaFonda Chester

LaFonda Chester, 76, of Airport Avenue, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 28, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1722 N. Mesa Street, with Bishop Vance Jenkins and Brother Tory Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. LaFonda Chester was born December 5, 1934 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Lorenzo Snow and Pearl (Shamblin) Kartchner. She was well known by the community and very active within her church. She was most proud of her family and enjoyed traveling to many events that her grandchildren were involved in. LaFonda's warm heart and thoughtfulness will be missed by so many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wrense and Pearl Kartchner and a brother, Sonny Kartchner. Survivors are her husband, Don Chester of Carlsbd, NM; son, Tim Chester and wife, Crystal of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughter, Brooklynn Scalva and husband, Daniel of Bloomfield, NM; grandson, Grant Chester of Carlsbad, NM; brother, Bill Kartchner of Port La Vaca, Texas. Pallbearers will be Donald Dean, Grant Chester, Daniel Scalva, Bill Traylor, Rusty Hennington and Tommy Dean. Honorary pallbearer is Gene Walterscheid. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
