Kenneth Earl Owens "K.O.", 83, left this earth on December 8th, 2013. He died at home with his family and long term companion, Gray Boy, his cat, at his side.
Services are set for Tuesday, December 10th at 2:00 PM at Denton Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Terry McKean of Lakeview Christian Hospice Care, officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Kenneth was born October 2, 1930 in Booker, TX to John and Iva Owens. He was raised in Portales, NM and worked on his uncles farm. In 1955 he moved to Carlsbad.
He married Sue Buckner on July 6, 1957 and they worked side by side owning and operating Ken Owens paint. He took great pride in his work, and truly enjoyed all of the people that he worked for through the years. He was a member of Carlsbad Elks Lodge #1558. Ken was young at heart. He never met a stranger and would do just about anything for anyone. He had a wonderful smile, beautiful blue eyes and he loved flirting with the girls and joking with people and making everyone laugh. He loved people and loved life. Ken was passionate about fishing and camping. Ken enjoyed riding motorcycles, and in past years was a member of the Re-Treads motorcycle club. He loved his cats, Gray Boy and Goldie and enjoyed watching birds from his front porch. He always made sure the birds had plenty of food. Ken was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue, on September 27, 1995; his precious daughter, Nikki, on November 17, 1984; his sister, Maxine Young and his brother, Sherman Owens.
He is survived by sons: Mike Owens and Rick Owens and their wives Lorie and Melissa; grandchildren: Michael Owens, Brandi Griffin, Gilbert Lara and wife, Victoria; great-grandchildren; Andrew, Luke and Emalyn Owens, Jaret, Jacob, and Melanie Griffin and Kiana Lara. He was blessed to have all of his family in Carlsbad. He is also survived by his brothers: William Owens and wife, Dorothy, of Carlsbad, NM, Marion Owens and wife, Velma, of Lubbock, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike Owens, Rick Owens, Michael Owens, Gilbert Lara, Andrew Owens, Bruce Owens, Robert Owens and Raul Romero are scheduled to be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be William and Marion Owens.
