Kenneth Pendergrass, 95, of North Ash Street, Carlsbad, NM, went to be home with the Lord on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Lakeview Christian Home. Per his wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 30, 2013, 10:00 AM, at Lakeview Christian Home Chapel with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Kenneth was born April 11, 1917, in Woodward, Oklahoma. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in Pampa, Texas. Amarillo, Texas and Albuquerque New Mexico were home for him until he went into the US Army in 1942 to serve in World War II until 1945. After the war, Kenneth and his younger brother, Pete, moved to Carlsbad and purchased Carlsbad Sheet Metal Company which they owned and operated until retirement in 2000. The family also owned and operated the Roswell Ice Company for several years. Kenneth married Betty "Pinky" Pendergrass in 1948. They enjoyed going to the family cabin in Silverton, Colorado as their children grew up. Upon retirement, Kenneth and Pinky were avid fishermen. They traveled the southwest in their RV, pulling their boat behind them. Their special fishin' hole was Heron Lake, NM. Kenneth was a member of the First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bob "Pinky" Pendergrass; his parents; a son, Kenneth "K.A." Pendergrass; two brothers, Vern and Buford. Survivors are his daughter, Tanya Herald and husband, Dick of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Adrian "Pudgy" Pendergrass and Shirley Bridges of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: Keith Pendergrass and Kalean Pendergrass; brother: Darwin "Pete" Pendergrass of Carlsbad, NM; nephew, Rick Pendergrass; niece, Jerri Guelker; and several other nieces and nephews.
