Kathryn Baker Fowler

Kathryn Baker Fowler, 87, passed away June 10, 2017. Visitation will be at Denton-Wood Funeral Home on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 5pm-7pm. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 10am at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terry McKean officiating. Interment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Kathryn Fowler was born in Sturgis, Kentucky, January 3, 1930, to Roland and Mabel Baker. She was homecoming queen at Sturgis High School and graduated in 1948. Kathryn married Danny W. Fowler on June 11, 1948, in Sturgis, Kentucky, where they made their home. Kathryn and Danny had their son Ted on December 1, 1950. In 1954, Danny, Kathryn and Ted moved to Carlsbad, NM to help Danny's brother Bill run the Red Barn Restaurant. In 1956, Danny and Kathryn started their own restaurant, the Red Chimney Pit Bar-B-Que. On March 25, 1958, their second son, Danny Ray was born in Carlsbad, NM. Kathryn was the administrative assistant for the superintendent of the Carlsbad School system for a number of years. She worked alongside Danny at the Red Chimney Pit Bar-B-Que restaurant until 1994, when they both decided to retire. Kathryn enjoyed serving and visiting with the customers. She was a very devoted wife, mother and Christian. Kathryn attended First Christian Church for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and taking care of her family. Kathryn had many hobbies including league bowling, arts and crafts, and riding motorcycles with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny W. Fowler and sisters: Wilma Crooks, Helen Gatlen and Beth Baker. Kathryn is survived by her two beloved sons, Ted Martin Fowler and wife, Machele (Shele), and Danny Ray Fowler and wife, Shirley; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John White, Heath Fowler, Andrew Kouba, David Toothman, J.C. Carter, Tommy Yeager and Steve Jones.
